Background

With over a decade spent in information law, she has a strong compliance background, and a keen understanding of the regulator’s perspective in assessing compliance, having held audit and investigation roles with federal and state government regulators, including the Australian Privacy Commissioner and Ombudsman SA.

Kara has assisted a number of Peripheral Blue clients with complex data protection and privacy compliance projects including:

• developing Data Breach Response Plans;
• conducting privacy audits and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs);
• undertaking data breach assessments to advise on notification obligations under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme;
• advising on privacy implications in mergers and acquisitions (including the transfer of customer databases); and
• developing and implementing compliance measures to ensure compliance with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Kara is also a policy generalist having worked as a Policy Adviser for federal and state government agencies, advising on a range of matters including identity security and housing policy. She assists clients with development and review of their policy and governance frameworks, applying the principles of co-design to create policy documents that are clearly communicated and seamless to implement.

Kara is a Non-Executive Director and Secretary on the board of a not-for-profit South Australian disability advocacy service. Kara holds a Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice. She is admitted to practice as a Solicitor and Barrister in the Supreme Court of South Australia.
